Papyrus columns 1: with open flower capital

The tallest, most splendid of all columns in Egypt are those that are crowned with capitals in the form of an open papyrus flower, such as these in the Colonnade of the Luxor temple.

More then 20 meters high, they are massive towers of stone. (Building was started under Amenhotep III, and completed under Horemheb - both 18th dynasty)

In the first court of the Amun temple at Karnak, only one giant of the kiosk of Taharqa (25th dynasty) still stands complete.

In the great hypostyle of the same temple, these delicate chalices push the names of Ramesses II to the sky.
