Ancient Egypt
Elements of its Cultural History

  by Sjef Willockx

About this site: an introduction

This site is dedicated to the history of ancient Egyptian culture: its emergence, development and ultimate decline.

Main objectives
To learn about the ancient Egyptians to the point where we can look through their eyes, to see their world as they saw it.
To put our own culture in perspective, by comparing it to theirs.

Approach
Methodologically sound, critical, and self-reliant.

Perspective
Interested in ancient Egypt for its own sake, not primarily as a source of answers for modern problems. Our future lies ahead: not in the past.

Secondary objectives
To promote the study of ancient Egypt, along the guidelines just mentioned.
To provide reliable information about ancient Egypt, as well as some grip on matters through an understanding of the operation of cultural mechanisms.
And to provide some resources that are not readily available for amateurs.

If you want to know whether this site is likely to agree with your own views, you can take a short Quiz.
